Events

As progressive traditionalists, we like to invite guest instructors who share our vision of how great martial arts training is to come and teach us.  These seminars, and nearly all of the events that our Chief Instructor John Burke teaches, are usually open to all martial artists, regardless of experience or affiliation.  Here are a few of the events that we have lined up:

2007

Last year, we have had visits from Anthony Blades renshi (6th dan), Pat McCarthy hanshi (8th dan), Vic Cook kyoshi (Iaido 7th dan), Neil Ellison sensei (5th dan), and Terry Wingrove sensei (7th dan).  These seminars, plus the ones that our sensei, John Burke (4th dan) has taught on subjects as diverse as Instant Self Defence, and Pressure Point theory have been great fun and well attended.

At our Black Belt Panel Grading in October we were very proud to recognise Neil Ellison sensei at 5th Dan, Richard Carrick sensei at 2nd Dan; Andy Wray, Jane Hughes, Steph Ellis, and Stuart Harvey as new 1st Dan Black Belts.

Now we're looking to organise the events for the current year.  Let us know if you have any special requests, so far it looks like this:

2008

So far this year we have had visits from Anthony Blades renshi (6th Dan), Terry Wingrove sensei (7th Dan), and Julian Mead sensei (7th Dan).  John Burke sensei (4th Dan) has also taught seminars on kata application and performance.  We have travelled to seminars with Patrick McCarthy sensei and Kanazawa kancho.

At our Black Belt Panel Grading in March we were proud to recognise Lee Warren, Liam Trott, Joe Trott, and Blaise Radley, all at 2nd Dan; and Joe Boyd, Annabel Callan, Jasper James, Dave Pickhaver, and Jared Wray as new 1st Dan Black Belts.

Sunday 18th May  John Burke sensei teaching Pressure Points in Newton Abbot.

Sunday 25th May  John Burke sensei teaching Empi bunkai in Romford.

Sunday 1st June.  Harry Cook sensei teaching kata.

Sunday 15th June.  EKK kyu grading.

Monday 4th - Friday 8th August.  Summer School

Monday 18th - Friday 22nd.  Summer School

Sunday 14th September.  EKK kyu grading.

Sunday 28th September.  Traditional Martial Arts Convention with guest instructors.

Monday 3rd November - Monday 17th November.  Budo training in Japan.

Saturday 29th November.  Terry Wingrove sensei at Samurai Karate dojo in Penzance, Cornwall.

Sunday 14th December.  EKK kyu grading.
